Happy Holidays LoveJoyers!

The LJ Team has missed you all so much.

Over the past few months, we have taken a brief hiatus from workshops to focus on strengthening our hearts, minds, bodies and souls with the intention of being able to hold it down even more once we start offering services to the community once again. We apologize for the lack of notification, but the shift came about naturally due to the various  individual situations the Universe presented to the members of the LOVEJOY team.

New Wednesday Yoga Session in July!

This  month we are happy to host 3 yoga sessions, with one special session added on a Wednesday for those of you who can’t make Mondays or simply just can’t get enough.

The dates for Yoga this month are:

All sessions begin at 7pm and finish around 830pm.

Hello Friends,

As many of you may or may not know, LOVEJOY is a new community organization started by three women from Cerritos, who want to make change at the local level by inspiring the hearts, minds, and spirits of the community through the expressive and holistic arts.

Currently, we use whatever resources we have available to us to host affordable workshops, which means using our living room as our home base. OUR GOAL is to have a physical community center in the near future.

We hope you can come and support our cause because our LOVEJOY Center is really for all of you. We envision it to be a space that every single one of you can use to host your own events, to come and share your talents, to get inspired, to heal, to help transform the world around us.

IN ESSENCE, LOVEJOY IS ALL OF US. LOVEJOY IS THE COMMUNITY AS ONE.

The evening will be full of good music, good vibes, and good people all for an awesome cause! Not to mention, we will be celebrating the birthdays of two wonderful people, Arezo Tehranirad and Daniel Siriban!

Spring Time Detox Recipe

Here is a little treat for everyone who missed out on LoveJoy’s Detox Workshop earlier this month. Ayurvedic Practitioner & LoveJoy Mama, Arezo was kind enough to give recommendations on how we can boost our health by flushing out the excess toxins in our bodies. Below you can find the recipe to her Spring Time Detox Formula.

Enjoy & Happy Detoxing!

Ingredients

1 carrot Carrot
1/4 c Celery Stalk
1/4 tsp Black Pepper
1 c Beets
2 tbsp Radish (raw)
1/4 c Parsley (Fresh)
1 clove Garlic (raw)

Recommendations for Preparation & Use of Detox

* use organic ingredients (they are potent and highly concentrated w/o chemicals)

* freshly squeezed juices lose their potency after about 20 minutes, so prepare individual portions and drink immediately, preferably on an empty stomach

* it is recommended to drink the formula in the morning

* it is ok to eat while on this detox

*  do the detox for 3-5 days

 

Using a  Blender

*chop ingredients

*puree with 4c water

*strain

*add black pepper

*enjoy  J

 

Using a Vegetable Juicer

*start with the parsley

*follow it with the celery

*add the peeled garlic

*carrot

*radish

*beet

*pour the juice into cup

*add ground black pepper

 

 

Meet our Yoga Instructor: Manuri



1.Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Manuri Ranasinghe and I moved to Los Angeles from Sri Lanka with my family in 1992.  I graduated from CSULB with Business Marketing degree and currently work as Marketing Manager for an outdoor advertising company, Titan.

Conscious living has become more and more important to my lifestyle over the years.  I became a vegetarian 5 years ago and noticed myself experiencing inner peace through service / volunteer work and just seeing smiles on other people’s faces.  I see teaching yoga as a service I can provide to others to improve their lives as well as my own in the process.
 


2. How long have you been practicing yoga?
I’ve been practicing yoga on and off for many years.  My very first yoga class was about 10 years ago and I became a certified yoga instructor through yoga works in 2010.  Currently I’m teaching at a neighborhood yoga studio in Redondo Beach, CA.

 


3. How or why did you first start practicing yoga?
My grandmother would take me to weekend meditation retreats when I was a little girl. I believe that’s when the first seed was planted in my head that led me to be a yoga teacher later in my adult life.  Meditation through yoga brings a lot of discipline & inner strength into my life and I enjoy sharing that energy with the students I teach and the people I come across in life.


4. Any advice for yoga beginners?
If you can breath, you can practice yoga.  It’s ok if you’re not flexible or strong enough.  Honor your body and respect the limitations of our unique beautiful body styles.  Try different styles of yoga to see which one you connect with the most.  We’re competitive creatures by nature.  It’s natural to want to compare yourself to your neighbor.  If you notice yourself doing this, take moments to close your eyes once settled into the pose to bring the awareness back into your self by connecting with your breath.  Take 10 minutes a day to sit in silence to follow your breath.  If you don’t have time to sit, this can be done while you wait for someone, at a line in a grocery store or doctor’s office, etc.  When you’re stuck in traffic, send love to the people around you and silently wish them well for their journey.  When someone upsets you, silently thank them for being your teacher and giving you an opportunity to help you practice more patience.  This is all yoga, on the mat and off the mat.  Have fun & just enjoy breathing!


5. Can you describe a typical class?
Breathing is the main focus in the class.  I teach a vinyasa flow style class that’s designed to leave you energetic and sweaty.  Label for the class is “Vitality – Level 2/3”, but I design the classes to fit students from all levels especially beginners.  They offer an opportunity to work deep and strong on a physical level in a non intimidating environment.  It’s designed to help you look deeper into your own self to build more inner strength and peace through the practice.


6. What do you love most about teaching yoga?
Yoga is a lifestyle that humbles me.  Teaching yoga is a service that I enjoy and I truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to offer it to others.

7. Our motto here at love joy is: live.LOVEJOY.ous ; any advise to help us live and love joyously?
Find a way to connect with your inner self to follow your heart’s intentions and pay attention to what makes you come alive each day and that will bring more love and joy into your life.

Meet our Yoga Instructor: Arzeo

 

1. Who are you and what do you do? (briefly tell us about yourself)
Namaste . I am Arezo ‘Shanti Love’ Tehranirad. I am very passionate about human wellness and union of the soul, body, and mind. I am a 200 hour registered yoga teacher (RYT), through Cloud Nine Yoga since 2009 and a 500 hour RYT since 2010. I am trained in Yoga Philosophy, Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, and Teaching Techniques in the Hatha Yoga Tradition. I am currently enrolled in an Ayurvedic Practitioner program at Southern California University of Health Sciences, which I will complete in December 2011.

2. How did you get into practicing/ teaching yoga?
Actively merging my body, mind, and soul has been a meditation for me since I was a child. Feeling a strong sense of connection and communication with mother nature enabled me to feel union with source from a young age. I began practicing asanas sporadically in 2005. As life went on and I obtained a Masters in Teaching and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from USC in 2007 I thought ok well I guess I’ll be teaching now. Little did I know that getting laid off as a 3rd grade teacher was going to spin me into living a life of yoga (union). I went on a trip to Iran and met and practiced yoga asana and meditation with a beautiful elder woman.  This woman radiated from head to toe without even talking. I admired the energy I felt shining through her and this ignited my search for the light that radiates within me. From that moment I knew that I wanted to facilitate this inner journey of union not only for myself but for everyone that is in search of guidance. This led me to enroll in yoga teacher trainings and embark on the journey.

 

 

3. What do you do to fulfill your spirit?
I live in gratitude. I have made it one of my life purposes to live a life of faith and union with source, to serve as a living example that magic happens when you believe. I am in constant communication with my spirit which is one with source. I do what ignites my spirit. I breathe. I do what makes me happy. I am a very passionate person who believes in following my heart. All of these things fulfill my spirit. It’s about choosing to make it a lifestyle and daily practice, to consciously honor your spirit in each moment, breath, thought, words, action.


 

 

 

4. Who/ what inspires you? Why?
Love inspires me. People who live from their heart space and honor their spirit. Creation. Art. Music. Connecting and communicating with source. Affirmations. Nature. Laughing. Play. Passion. Bliss. Being of Service. Why? Because these are all expressions of the divine, whether they are within us or around us. These are the things that ignite my spirit and bring me joy, which is our natural state of being.  

5. What is your favorite book of the moment? Why?
I do not have favorites because each thing is a unique expression in it self. I am currently reading A Toltec Wisdom Book: The Fifth Agreement by Don Miguel Ruiz and Don Jose Ruiz. It is a guide to Self Mastery, which is where the magic begins.

 

 

6. Any quotes that you live by?
I love quotes that resonate with me. There are many. I have collected quotes since I was a kid. Here is one. What I love about quotes is that many of them speak of truths in the simplest way, which resonates deeply within.

7. Our motto here at LOVEJOY is: live.LOVEJOY.ous ; how you YOU live and love joyously?
I live and love joyously by embodying love and joy as my true essence. By not only intellectually understanding that love and joy are nice but by choosing to live in a state of love and joy all the time. By choosing to live in the present moment. I choose to live consciously and in awareness of each moment so that I am not held down by the past or caught up in the future. I see each now moment as a learning experience, an apportunity to learn, expand, evolve, and ascend. Conscioulsy choosing to be the observer enabling me to detangle from attachments manifested in the mind as thoughts or on the physical realm. Knowing that I am guided and protected by source allows me to surrender and trust that it is all perfect somehow. Rememberring that my breath is a tool to get through any stagnation that may present itself, to connect me to the present moment, and to source. Try it!!!!

Join LOVEJOY for Heart Meditation & Collage Workshop with Loralei Rose!

On Wednesday, February 23, 2011 come through to Casa de LOVEJOY and engage in a unique art workshop in honor of Heart Chakra Month. Lead by artist, Loralei Rose, participants will get a chance to relax and engage with themselves through a heart meditation/ visualization and use the collage process to translate their vision into a work of art.

Loralei Rose has conducted numerous collage workshops, which she calls “My Paper Heart Workshops,” throughout California in various non-profits and educational settings. Such spaces include, UCSD Cross Cultural Center, Sacramento State Multi-Cultural Center, UCB Women of Color Conference, Art Institute in Mission Viejo, and Khmer Girls In Action.

Loralei Rose believes that art and healing go hand in hand and that through the use of our creativity we are able to tap into our psyches and understand ourselves in a way talking or reflection alone don’t allow.

The evening will surely be a treat! We hope to see you on the 23rd!
